The Institute of Child Health and Human Development (ICHHD) was founded on April 15, 1999 by Dr. Perla Santos-Ocampo, then Chancellor of the University of the Philippines Manila.

Since its inception, the Institute has been at the forefront of research in child health, development, and welfare, contributing significantly to both local and international research policies and guidelines. Beyond research, its faculty members have served as technical experts for numerous national and international organizations, covering a wide range of areas including vaccine-preventable diseases, tuberculosis, environmental pollution and toxicants, nutrition, and neurologic infections. Their expertise has played a vital role in education and training, clinical practice guideline development, and shaping health policies that impact children’s lives.
